Arcanum Senior Advisor Baroness Patricia Scotland First Female Elected Secretary – General of the Commonwealth

Hon. the Baroness of Asthal QC, Patricia Scotland on her election as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. Baroness Scotland is the first female to be elected to this post in its 66-year history. Baroness Scotland who was Dominica’s candidate, will assume her post in April of 2016, having defeated Sir Ronald Sanders, who was previously Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner to the UK and Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat from 2008-2014. The distinguished and honoured role of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth is to promote and protect Commonwealth values and principles set forth in the Commonwealth charter, represent the Commonwealth globally and manage the Commonwealth Secretariat and its various programs.

Baroness Scotland will be stepping down as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Arcanum in order to assume her role as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
