FORMER COMMANDING GENERAL OF FIRST SPECIAL FORCES COMMAND JOINS ARCANUM

Major General James E. Kraft, Jr., USA (Ret) assumes a pivotal leadership role in Arcanum’s strategic operation

Deputy Commanding General of XVIII Airborne Corp and Commanding General of 1st Special Forces
Command (Airborne) Major General (Ret) James E. Kraft, Jr. as Senior Vice President, Special Operations
and Mission Support. In this pivotal role, he will bring his extensive leadership experience and expertise
to enhance Arcanum’s strategic capabilities.
MG (Ret) Kraft graduated the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1991, after which he commanded a
series of significant roles in Special Forces and Special Operations Forces units during times of peace and
at war. His distinguished career included multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and throughout
Central and South America. He served as both a Special Operations Task Force and Combined Joint Special
Operations Task Force commander in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM-Afghanistan, and
Commander of the Special Operations Joint Task Force, Operation INHERENT RESOLVE – Iraq and Syria,
demonstrating exceptional leadership and irregular warfare and sensitive activities expertise in high-
stakes environments.
MG (Ret) Kraft’s career has been marked by a wealth of key staff and other operational assignments,
having held pivotal roles as the Director of Operations for USASOC, Chief of Staff for SFCMD (Airborne),
Executive Officer to the commander of USSOCOM, Director of Operations for United States Forces
Command/Combined Forces Command/United Nations Command – Korea, and Assistant Commanding
General of Joint Special Operations Command.
As Commanding General of 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), he led and ensured the readiness of
his 22,000-person command to include all of the Army’s Green Berets and active duty Civil Affairs and
Psychological Operations Soldiers. MG (Ret) Kraft led the Joint and Combined counter Da’esh fight in
Syria, Coalition Special Operations Forces from 14 different counties, all U.S. Special Operations missions,
and 2,500 Soldiers and Special Operators deployed to over 50 countries in support of U.S. interests
abroad.
MG (Ret) Kraft’s awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal with two Oak Leaf
Cluster (OLC), Defense Superior Service Medal (3 OLC) and Combat Device, Legion of Merit (2 OLC), and
the Bronze Star Medal. In addition, he has also earned the Special Forces and Ranger tabs, Master
Parachutist, Pathfinder, Air Assault, Expert Infantryman, and Combat Infantry Badges.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College
and a Master of Science degree in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Advanced
Warfighting School – National Defense University.
